"Reverend Monsignor Thomas Welbers became pastor
of the Church of the Good Shepherd on July 1, 2009,
after having served as pastor for fifteen years at Our
Lady of the Assumption parish in Claremont. Father
Tom, as he prefers to be called informally, was born
and raised in Van Nuys, attended St. John's Seminary
in Camarillo and was ordained in 1968. He has served
in many parishes throughout the Archdiocese. He also
received a degree in Liturgical Theology from the
Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome, and has been a
teacher and consultant in liturgy. He also spent eleven
years as campus minister at the Cal State Long Beach
Newman Center and as Archdiocesan Director of
Campus Ministry. Throughout his priesthood, Fr. Tom
has counted both Fr. Colm and
Fr.George as mentors
and friends."
